from the Colegio de la Frontera Sur (Ecosur) reported the discovery of a new crustacean (amphipod) among the inhabitants of the Yucatán continental shelf .
Carlos Paz
and Daniel Pech discovered and studied the crustacean , it was named Gammaropsis elvirae , in honor of Elvira , Carlos Paz's wife .
The new species was found at a depth of 70 meters , which shows that the Yucatán platform hasn't been explored in depth and that it has a great diversity of species that are yet to be discovered, they explained.
