A student from Mexico’s National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) has created a system to remotely monitor electronic devices and basic-service installations such as water, electricity, and gas, and thus prevent accidents.
The smart technology management system SMART-TECH , is a software that can be used on any device with Internet access, said its creator Jean Paul Cruz Cruz .
The young man, a first-year student at the Computer Systems Engineering major at the School of Computing , explained that he had used the C++ programming language for the development of the prototype.
He added that the idea for the project came from the concerns people usually have when they are not at home, such as whether or not they left any appliance, or the stove on. Perhaps even an open faucet.
This sort of event can cause accidents, mainly due to gas leaks, high costs in energy consumption, or water wastage.
For this development, a mock-up of a house was made, equipped with motors, cables, power supplies, relays or electromagnetic relays, photovolts, etc., to remotely control the appliances or services that the user chooses.

He considered it important that people use digital technology not only for entertainment purposes, but to control all areas of their lives.
The young man is a student at the Center for Scientific and Technological Studies (CECyT) 13 "Ricardo Flores Magón." He obtained the first place for the first category of the "Smart cities and sustainable communities" area in a contest called " Solutions for the future , Prize for Polytechnic Entrepreneurship 2018 ," which was carried out by IPN and Samsung .
In a statement, the IPN informed that the student received a decoration and a prize of 100 thousand pesos for the formalization of his company in the Incubation Center of Technological Base Companies (Poli-Incuba) at the institute.
