President López Obrador
said he is hoping Jesús Seade , the Deputy Foreign Minister for North America, is appointed as the new director of the World Trade Organization , in a bid to prevent confrontations or unilateral tariffs .
During a news conference, the Mexican President said Seade is known in the United States and Canada since he was one of the main USMCA negotiators; moreover, López Obrador emphasized the expert has a solid relationship with other governments, like China .
Jesús Seade
is a renowned trade expert who has previously worked at the World Trade Organization.
President López Obrador said the decision will be made in a month, and that the Mexican government is looking for the support of other countries.

Seade was the official in charge of the renegotiation of the NAFTA , a free trade agreement between Mexico, Canada, and the U.S.
He has a Master’s Degree and a Ph.D. in Economy by Oxford University. He was Mexico’s ambassador to the Wolrd Trade Organization.
On June 8, the Mexican President confirmed Seade had been officially postulated by Economy Minister Graciela Márquez Colín.
Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrad said he supports Seade.
Roberto Azevedo
announced he would step down from the position a year early.
