On Friday early morning, an armed group attacked a family traveling in a van with three adults and four minors. Three adults died and two minors had severe injuries due to the attack. The crime took place at the Camino Antiguo a Tepoztlán street of Cuernavaca’s Antonio Barona neighborhood.
Preliminary information mentions that the minors are 11, 9, 8, and 3 years old. The bodies of a woman, the mother of the children, and two men, were found inside a white BMW van with license plates PXF-036-C.
They had left a party and were on their way home when they were attacked, as was informed unofficially.
In the last 24 hours, authorities reported at least six murders in Yautepec, Amacuzac, Jiutepec, and Cuernavaca.

Unfortunately, this is not the first attack against families registered recently in Mexico. Despite the pandemic, the number of homicides and related crimes are still on the rise in different Mexican states, many of which are allegedly linked to organized crime.
On July 13, gunmen attacked a family in Guaymas, Sonora. At least three people died in the shooting and five others were wounded.
On Sunday at 10 AM, an armed attack against a vehicle was reported. At least 10 people were traveling in the vehicle. Four of those wounded are between 2 and 15 years-old.
During the shooting, the driver, and two other passengers died; one of the victims was a 9-year-old girl.
According to authorities, one of the fatal victims was Juan Francisco, also known as “El Brujo.” He had a criminal record that includes crimes against health and attempted homicide.
The vehicle the family was traveling in did not have a license plate.
After the attack, state authorities said federal, state, and municipal authorities were working to find those behind the shooting.
Municipal police, the navy, the National Guard, state police, and the Criminal Investigation Agency arrived at the scene.

On July 9, five women, four of whom were minors, were murdered inside a house at the El Gavillero neighborhood, as confirmed by authorities from the State of Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office.
The five women were found by municipal police officers with multiple gunshot wounds on their bodies and it was observed that when they were attacked some of them, who were wearing their pajamas, tried to hide under their bed.

On June 18, a criminal group broke into a home in Celaya, Guanajuato. The criminals killed seven people, including a pregnant woman and a 2-year-old girl.
When authorities arrived at the scene, they found a vehicle on fire. Inside the home, they found the dead bodies of all seven family members.
In the same area, a shooting was registered hours ago. An adult and a 6-year-old boy were attacked; the boy died and the man was wounded.
Sources from the local police said that the victims of both attacks are members of the same family; nevertheless, authorities have not been able to establish a link between the two attacks.
However, one of the most shocking attacks against families in recent times took place on November 5, 2019, when a criminal group ambushed and killed six children and three women from the LeBarón family, a Mexican-American Mormon community.
The deadly attack took place in a road between Chihuahua and Sonora states, in the Bavispe community.
After the massacre, Security Minister Alfonso Durazo explained that the LeBarón family was traveling in three trucks from Galeana, in Chihuahua, to Bavispe, in Sonora around 1 p.m. when the Mormon family was ambushed and massacred by an armed group.
Days after the attack, Julián LeBarón told EL UNIVERSAL that the Mormon community did not receive help from state authorities from Chihuahua and Sonora and explained that it was the LeBarón family , with the support of the Federal Police and the Army, who arrived at the crime scene where they found a baby inside one of the cars. LeBarón said the community will continue to live in Mexico.
