To promote the use of hybrid and electric cars , the federal government is betting on the operation of 3 “electric corridors,” which will connect Mexico City with Cuernavaca, Puebla, and Toluca.
The Executive Coordinator of the Megalopolis Environmental Commission (CAMe), Martín Gutiérrez Lacayo , said that it is a project which will start this year and will be ready by 2018 ; he detailed that they are working hand in hand with the automotive industry.
In an interview with EL UNIVERSAL , he stated that the goal is to have charging stations along the corridors , so those who use electric cars can travel longer distances.
Gutiérrez said that they are working along with the states part of the Megalopolis ( Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Puebla, Morelos, Tlaxcala, and Hidalgo ) so that they also have this type of stations and promote the use of eco-friendly vehicles .
“To increase the electro-mobility supply network . What does that mean? We need more fast charging stations. And, for that, the Secretariat of Energy and the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources have joined us to support and sign contracts with the states, in order to have public spaces available to install the charging stations .
He said that until now they have signed contracts with the State of Mexico and Mexico City .
Last week, the Secretariat of Economic Development informed that the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) prepared the installation of 28 charging stations in the capital and 5 more in neighboring highways.
“This fact is part of the initial plan of energetic transition . The city already has 16 electric stations and it is expected to install some more, to reach 42 this year , which will add to the 28 stations of the CFE ,” added the Secretariat of Economic Development.
