According to the report released by the National Center for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred), the Popocatépetl volcano spewed 48 exhalations followed by gas and steam emissions as well as one volcano-tectonic earthquake during the last 24 hours.
At night, continuous incandescence over the crater was observed.
Since 5:58 a.m., it has been observed a continuous emission of ash, steam and gas, and a column reaching an average height of 500m above the crater, moving to the northeast.
Also, incandescent fragments were observed on the east slope of the volcano, which were projected at a distance of 300m.
Ashfall has been reported in the towns of Atlixco, Chiautzingo, Domingo Arenas, Huejotzingo, Juan C. Bonilla, San Andrés Calpan and San Martín Texmelucan in the state of Puebla as well as in the town of San Miguel del milagro in the state of Tlaxcala.
