Alejandro Mayorkas, Deputy Secretary of the United States Department of Homeland Security, spoke about the interest of having Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán extradited to the U.S.
“We have a significant interest in judging 'El Chapo'. We understand that Mexico also wants to judge him and I think that our colleagues in law enforcement are working to find the best for both nations," expressed Mayorkas in an interview with EL UNIVERSAL during the Global Summit organized by the World Travel&Tourism Council (WTTC).
The leader of the Sinaloa Cartel has appealed twice against his extradition, but to no avail.
Mayorkas also praised the working relationship with the Mexican government and said that "we have a wonderful society with the Mexican government leaders on security."
He also spoke about his recent visit to McAllen, Texas, where he met the customs authorities in the Río Grande Valley area.
