The DEA congratulates Mexico for the arrest of "El Chapo"

The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) congratulated the Mexican authorities for the recapture of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán and highlighted the continuous collaboration with the Mexican authorities for purposes of extradition.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration says it is "extremely pleased" by the recapture of Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.

On its Twitter account, the DEA congratulated Mexico's government on nabbing Guzman, who escaped from a maximum-security prison six months ago, and said it salutes "the bravery involved in his capture."

Both the Department of Justice and the DEA are working on a statement to be presented during the day.

The Department of Justice introduced on June 2014 an extradition request against "El Chapo," just a month before his escape from the maximum security prison of El Altiplano last July 12.

The Justice Department has no immediate comment on whether it will push to extradite Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman to the United States, where he faces charges in multiple different jurisdictions across the country.
