Mexican authorities reported the arrest of an Arizona fugitive who’s been on the run for 14 years and now has been returned to the United States.
U.S. Marshals Service officials requested aid to arrest 60-year-old Norman Burt Beverly, who was taken into custody Tuesday night in Cuernavaca, Morelos. The suspect was hiding there under the guise of a French language teacher, Francois Cardis, and had constant contact with minors.
He was deported Wednesday and booked into the Los Angeles County jail awaiting a transfer to Arizona to face charges.
Authorities say Beverly was wanted for failure to appear on charges of sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 15.
They say he allegedly sexually molested two 15-year-old victims from October 1999 through April 2000 in Tucson.
Beverly was arrested in March 2001. A month later, a bench warrant was issued for Beverly’s arrest after he failed to appear in Pima County Superior Court.
