1,300 pounds of cocaine were seized at the Mexico City international airport in June, it was found distributed among eight suitcases on a plane originating in Venezuela.
The drug was detected by Mexican marines.
Two Mexicans and an American were arrested in Auckland and Christchurch.
According to authorities, the flight came from Caracas, Venezuela.
Authorities in Venezuela said they seized more than 3.4 metric tons of cocaine.
The suspects are accused of supplying an international criminal organization active in the U.S., Mexico and Western Europe with cocaine and large quantities of destructive weapons.
Alfredo Beltrán Leyva admitted that he helped ship tons of cocaine from South America to the U.S.
The wood sheets came from Ecuador.
