The Mexican actress said that she wants to use her fame and platform to fight for women's rights and asked people not to misinterpret the definition of feminis m.
Aparicio explained that the term “ feminism ” raises wariness among people and that many of them, including women, mistakenly link it to “ female superiority ” and with discrimination against men.
“To be a feminist is to look for gender equality , not showing superiority . We are all equal, and we deserve the same rights,” said the actress, who recently traveled to Panama for the International Panama Film Festival .
During an interview, the actress said that there has been progress in favor of gender equality and that more men are joining the feminist cause, although many of them don't publicly declare themselves as feminists because they are afraid of being discriminated .
In Mexico , ROMA raised an important discussion in regards to the rights of domestic workers and Indigenous women , who are often discriminated.

explained that “in my community, women are the breadwinners and the ones who push us to go forward.”
The actress also said that she was “one of those people who didn't see the impact a film could have. ROMA has achieved many things, but it is the government's job, and that of the domestic workers and employers to fight to dignify the profession.”
ROMA
has been hailed as a homage to the women in Alfonso Cuarón's life, as well as a tribute to matriarchy and women in general.
