The Francisco Javier Clavijero Botanical Garden of the Ecology Institute (Inecol) , Public Research Center of Mexico’s Science and Technology Council (Conacyt) , was selected to receive the 2019 Top 10 North American Gardens Worth Traveling For award .
The distinction is granted jointly by the Canadian Garden Council , the American Public Gardens Association, and the Mexican Botanical Gardens Association .

The Javier Clavijero Botanical Garden, located in the old highway to Coatepec , is part of Inecol since 1998. Its scientific collection of alive plants includes over 1,000 species and over 5,000 alive specimens rigorously registered.
Each of these specimens (trees, bushes, palms, and herbs) is identified and has data on its origins, uses, and optimal living conditions , the place and year where it was collected, as well as its “health state”, among other information.
In the framework of the 2019 Garden Tourism in British Columbia, Canada, Michel Gauthier , the Executive Director of the Canadian Garden Counci l, presented the award to Dr. Miguel Rubio Godoy , general director of Inecol, who went in representation of the Institute and the Mexican Botanical Gardens Association.
