William Barr will visit Mexico
Days before former Bolivian President Evo Morales left Mexico to travel to Cuba and then stay in Argentina and also days before former Security Minister Genaro García Luna was arrested in Texas, U.S. Attorney General William Barr met with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. We’ve been told both events seem a coincidence . Barr is set to visit Mexico City on January 16 and Mexican politicians should be worried because who knows what this visit could bring. We’ve been told that during his visit, the U.S. official might not meet with the Mexican President but William Barr will surely bring a lot of surprises.
Marcelo Ebrard goes to Guatemala
We’ve been told that Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard will represent President López Obrador in the inauguration of Alejandro Giammattei as President of Guatemala . Ebrard will be accompanied by Maximiliano Reyes Zúñiga , the Undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean and spokesperson Roberto Velasco . So these Mexican officials will be present at the event, after Giammattei visited Mexico City in September 2019 and said he was interested in boosting the Development Plan between Guatemala and Mexico, which aims to create job opportunities in the border between the two countries and later establish the first Special Binational Economic Zone .
Mexico will reform its justice system
Senator Ricardo Monreal announced that the Executive Branch , in collaboration with the Attorney General’s Office , will present a series of reforms for the justice system . The reforms would have an impact on many of the laws and include changes to the Constitution . Is this attempt to modify the justice system the solution to the serious problems in Mexico ?
The PAN wants to forget Anaya
On May 2, the PAN will meet to modify the political party’s rules. We’ve been told that one of the changes proposed is to prevent party leaders from using their positions to secure a candidacy. The thing is that some PAN members used their power to become candidates , which resulted in catastrophic losses for the party and in its weakening as an opposition party .
