In 2017, violent robbery was on the rise in Mexico City , as it presented a 28.47% increase compared to 2016.
Violent robbery was followed by intentional homicide with a 14.26% increase, business robbery with a 13.1% increase, and mugging with an 11.90% increase, according to the Annual Report on High Impact Crime issued by Mexico's National Citizen Observatory ( ONC ).
"In Mexico City, every 19 minutes a violent robbery is reported, every 25 minutes mugging is reported, and every 30 minutes some sort of business robbery ," indicates the report.
Moreover, ONC disclosed that the theft rate in Mexico City is 66% highe r than the national rate, while the theft rate in both Cuauhtémoc and Miguel Hidalgo boroughs is three times over the national rate.
Cuajimalpa
, Álvaro Obregón , Tláhuac , and Venustiano Carranza topped the list on crime incidence in Mexico City, as eight out of the ten types of crime analyzed increased in those boroughs.
Cuauhtémoc
led the borough ranking in violent robbery , mugging , and rape while Benito Juárez topped in burglary and business robbery and Miguel Hidalgo placed in second in violent robbery , mugging , and intentional homicide .
Venustiano Carranza
, Cuauhtémoc , and Gustavo A. Madero registered most of the 1,048 intentional homicides reported in 2017.
Azcapotzalco
and Benito Juárez topped the list on vehicle theft in Mexico City.
