The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra , considered one of the most influential orchestras in the history of music, will come to Mexico City in March 2018 to offer two concerts at the Palace of Fine Arts ( Palacio de Bellas Artes ), under the direction of Venezuela-born Gustavo Dudamel , the youngest music conductor ever to lead the traditional New Year's Concert.
Dudamel is currently musical director of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela and musical and artistic director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic .
In 2006 , the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra performed in Monterrey and in at the National Auditorium ( Auditorio Nacional ) in Mexico City under the direction of Ricardo Mutti , one of the most outstanding music conductors of the international scene while in 1981 , the orchestra performed at the Juárez Theater in Guanajuato , within the framework of the Cervantino International Festival and at the Ollin Yoliztli Cultural Center in Mexico City under the direction of Carlos Kleiber .
The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra official website announced that the concerts in Mexico will be held on March 2 and 3 at the Palace of Fine Arts at 7:30 p.m. , yet the program will be announced at a later date.
The previous orchestra's visits to the country were made possible by the intervention of Austrian teacher Éricka Kubacsek ( 1926-2015 ), who forged a career of more than 50 years in Mexico as a teacher, pianist, choral director, and harpsichordist.
With more than 175 years of history, great composers like Richard Wagner have described the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra as one of the most outstanding of the world, Johannes Brahms considered himself a "friend and admirer," Gustav Mahler claimed to be united through "the bonds of musical art," and Richard Strauss declared that "all the praise of the Vienna Philharmonic is revealed as euphemism."
