On February 26, 2013 , exactly six years ago, Elba Esther Gordillo , was supposed to have dinner with the Interior Minister, Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong . He had asked her to attend a dinner party and told her that Luis Videgaray , the Finance Minister , would also be in attendance.
Osario Chong
had a political alliance with Gordillo , which spanned 10 years. The previous week, he had visited at her home to ask her to accept the education reform that was being promoted by President Peña Nieto .
Months later, when she was in jail , Gordillo found out that Osorio Chong had gone behind her back and join forces with the SNTE Secretary , Juan Díaz and Soralla Bañuelos , the union's general proxy. They agreed on a strategy to neutralize the union leader.
Later, on February 26, a group of federal agents, soldiers , and members of Mexico's Federal Prosecutor's Office were waiting for her at the Toluca airport in order to arrest her.
Today, Mexican media outlet LA SILLA ROTA has released the video of the moment the union leader was detained.
When the union leader was on her way to prison , the Attorney General, Jesús Murillo Karam , was hosting a press conference at the airport , who announced her arrest for “several irregular operations” that amounted to MXN $2,000 million.
After a long legal process , Elba Esther Gordillo was released from jail a few months ago. She has announced her interest in becoming the union leader again but her return to politics has yet to take place.
