“God's Actions” (Actos de Dios ) is a project curated by Magalí Arriola , it's about “essential narratives”, those rooted in faith, that support many of society and culture's values embodied by politic, justice and government institutions that Western countries have developed and spread in the last centuries.
The National Fine Arts Institute ( INBA ) informed that Pablo Vargas Lug o has been selected by its jury.
According to the statement, for the 5 8th Venice Biennale in 2019, Ralph Rugoff , the exhibition's curator, has proposed the motto “ May You Live in Interesting Times ,” and explains:
“ May You Live in Interesting Times springs from a belief that interesting art creates forms whose particular character and delineation raise questions about the ways in which we mark cultural boundaries and borders. Intelligent artistic activity involves creating forms that call attention to what forms conceal, and the functions that they fulfill. The exhibition will highlight art that exists in between categories, and which questions the rationales behind our categorical thinking.”
God's Action
s proposes the discussion between memory and historical events. Vargas Lugo invites us to question out categorical thinking. “ God's Acts will lead the spectator beyond the limits and frontiers of our knowledge by exploring those links that connect our social spaces with their cultural representations ”.
Pablo Vargas Lugo
is one of the most important artists of his generation, and his work stands out for its visual and conceptual enigmas he established based on an inter-disciplinary dialogue, such as astronomy, cartography, or archeology.
Vargas Lugo
's interest in nature and materials, the antique and sacred, religions' history or science fiction, has allowed him to displace hierarchies and re-imagine the categories that structure Western thought.
Through drawings, sculptures, paintings, videos, and art installations, the artist calls into question the conventions that structure the systems and languages from different social contexts and cultural worldviews, to provoke the displacement and dislocation of the way of thinking.
The 58th Venice Biennale will open to the public from May 11 to November 24.
