The Templo Mayor will have lighting soon

The Templo Mayor or Great Temple will soon have lighting that will highlight the site at night in the Historic Center of Mexico City .

On Friday, during the inauguration of the new access to the archaeological site and the Templo Mayor Museum , Miguel Ángel Mancera , Mayor of Mexico City , announced that the project will be presented soon.

Accompanied by the Secretary of Culture , María Cristina García Cepeda , and the Director of the National Institute of Anthropology and History ( Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia abbreviated INAH ), Diego Prieto , Mancera said that the project will highlight the archaeological site at night.

At the end of the opening ceremony, the archaeologist and founder of the Templo Mayor Project , Eduardo Matos Moctezuma , told the press that the lighting will not affect the archaeological site.

He stressed that this lighting will offer more possibilities for the visitors.

The new access to the site is open to the public after about seven years of work and a series of modifications. Visitors now will be able to appreciate some of the vestiges recently found by the Urban Archeology Project ( Proyecto de Arqueología Urbana abbreviated PAU ), such as half of the Cuauhxicalco , a circular platform with serpent heads, vestiges of a sacred tree of 500 years of antiquity, and incense burners, ceramics, vessels and some sculptures.
