Filmmaker Ridley Scott has decided to remove all the scenes featuring Kevin Spacey from his upcoming film “ All the Money in the World ” – scheduled to premiere on December 22 – and replace him for actor Christopher Plummer .
According to the information first reported by Deadline Hollywood , Scott and Imperative Entertainment made this decision – backed by Sony – due to the string of allegations against the "American Beauty" actor.
Spacey played oil billionaire John Paul Getty, a supporting but critical role for the film as he was the man reluctant to pay the ransom demanded by kidnappers for his teenage grandson, J. Paul Getty III.
Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams, who star in “All the Money in the World,” are also said to be involved with the reshoots.
Christopher Plummer, the actor now replacing Spacey, will have to shoot all the scenes in the next two weeks – a tight schedule, given the film's release hasn't been delayed. Yet, Deadline said the move feasible as there are plenty of scenes where Getty is the only main character.
On Monday, the film was also pulled from the premiere screening at the AFI Fest 2017 in Los Angeles due to the news about Spacey and “out of respect for those impacted" since the company behind the film believed it would be “inappropriate to celebrate at a gala,” according to a statement released by the company.
