Premium fuel
is being sold at a price of MXN $20 per liter in some areas of the State of Mexico and Mexico City, according to latest reports.
From December 31, 2016 – one day before fuel deregulation entered into effect – to date, this premium fuel has increased its price by 35% .
One of the factors behind this price hike is due to premium fuel being imported from the United States almost in its entirety, where it is subjected to the constant increases as oil price rises. This, in addition to state-owned oil company Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) not producing enough quantities to meet national demand.
According to the smartphone app Petro Intelligence, there are gas stations in Atizapán de Zaragoza , in the State of Mexico, selling Premium gasoline for MXN$ 20 per liter.
A similar case occurs in Mexico City boroughs such as Benito Juárez and Xochimilco .
