Piñatas

are a must during Christmas and holidays , and even birthdays ! They are said to have originated in China , then they were taken to Italy and Europe , and became especially popular Spain .

Then, when missionaries were trying to convert indigenous people into Catholicism , they used piñatas to attract them. Nevertheless, Aztecs had a similar tradition, where they placed clay pots filled precious stones and decorated with colorful feathers , as an offering to Huitzilopochtli .

Now, over 500 years ago, this tradition has been reinvented. You can visit "Piñatas y Flores" (Piñatas and Flowers) in the Bosque de Chapultepec in Mexico City .

The piñatas are inside the botanic garden , in front of the Museo Tamayo . The closest Metrobus station is Gandhi.
