An investigation by EL UNIVERSAL has revealed that former President Enrique Peña Nieto is fond of haute cuisine and spent millions of food during national and international flights .
On July 11, 2015 , on his way to France , Peña Nieto and his entourage ordered 69 croaker fillets, 69 shrimp salads, and 9 beef steaks , which are all cataloged as VIP dishes by the caterer “ Private Catering ”, that they, the passengers also requested high-quality vegetables, Mediterranean salads , and tarts before landing at the Paris-Orly airport .
During this 12-hour flight , Peña Nieto , his then-wife Angélica Rivera , and his 143 companions spent MXN $261,423 on food, that is, over MXN $26,000 per hour on food.
Through the years, the banquets organized for high-ranking officials and guest became the norm, and when it came to international flights , the former administration spent millions on catering services .
According to the invoices obtained by EL UNIVERSAL , Peña Nieto and his entourage spent MXN $20,722,000 ; 7 7% was spent on international tours from December 2012 to December 2015.
In regards to catering services , the 133 invoices obtained by EL UNIVERSAL reveal that the former administration spent MXN $16,649,000 on 65 destinations including F rance, Italy, U.S., Alaska, Canada, China, Indonesia, Switzerland, England, Spain, Portugal, Colombia, Turkey, Ecuador, Venezuela, Haiti, Côte d'Ivoire, Chile, Costa Rica, Russia, Australia, Peru , and others.
One of the most expensive banquets took place during Peña Niet o's visit to Asia in 2015 , which cost MXN $1,614,000 ; then it is followed by a trip to Los Angeles, where he spent MXN $1,395,000 ; the third most expensive meal took place in Gander, Canada , where the former President and his team stopped on their way to France in 2015 , where they spent MXN $634,304 and when the plane continued its journey towards France , they spent another MXN $641,538.
Other banquets include one on a flight to Turkey in 2015, where Peña Nieto spent MXN $529,000 ; in 2014, he spent MXN $656,804 on a flight to Spain ; on a flight to Italy he spent MXN $431,120 ; on the way to England he spent MXN $631,000 in 2015 ; in 2013, Peña Nieto spent MXN $670,475 in Indonesia , and in that same year, on the flight to Côte d'Ivoire , he spent MXN $366,000 . The least expensive trip was Haiti in 2013, where the former President spent MXN $62,000 . The rest of the meals cost between MXN $100,000 and MXN $400,000 .
Refined Palate
Some of the haute cuisine dishes requested by the former President and his companions include 40 plates of fish fillets with lemon sauce , which cost EUR $1,400 ; 30 crabs cakes for USD $1,879 , and 20 plates of Italian rice with shrimp, calamari, mussels, clams, and lobster for USD $1,779.
Catering Services
The companies hired by the former administration were General Aviation Service, AEG Aviation Services, Royal FBO Service, Universal Weather and Aviation, Great Circle Flight Services, Aerosupport FBO, Real Alfa Flight, Celebi Hava Servisi, Aeroservices Ground Handling Services , and Tahiti Air Service , among others.
In Mexico
In Mexico , the former President and his team also used luxury catering services but they also bought food from restaurants . The 69 invoices obtained by EL UNIVERSAL show that Peña Nieto spent MXN $4,602,000 on food in Veracruz, Baja California, Quintana Roo, Durango, Sinaloa, Guerrero, Chihuahua, Jalisco, Guanajuato, San Luis Potosí, Colima, Michoacán, Nuevo León, Mexico City, and Coahuila.
According to the Office of the President , the administration bought food to eat in aboard of presidential plane , including restaurants Al Pan Pan , located in Cancún, where Peña Nieto and his companions spent MXN $547,447 ; Sagrantino , where they spent MXN $375, 919 ; Productora del Norte Garza García located in Nuevo León, where they spent MXN $266, 963 , and in Acapulco, they spent MXN $245,409 at Harrys , which is famous for its meat, shrimp, and fish .
Among the restaurants registered in the invoices, seafood restaurants stand out, including Villa Marina, Villa Rica, El Anzuelo, La Mazatleca, Los Arcos , and Piquitos , where the President and his team spent MXN $690,378.

had access to 216 menus from 2012 to 2015 , which included dishes such as roasted sea bass with saffron sauce, smoked salmon carpaccio, shrimp cocktail, octopus empanadas, stuffed crabs topped with cheese, fish steak with coriander, and tuna carpaccio , among many other luxurious dishes .
