Patti Smith
will recite her poem " Hecatomb ", dedicated to the Chilean writer Roberto Bolaño , author of The Savage Detectives . American singer-songwriter will perform at La Casa del Lago , in Chapultepec , on Saturday, September 2 .
On Twitter, the venue wrote in Spanish: "Singer, poet, and visual artist, Patti Smith, will read "Hecatomb", a poem dedicated to Roberto Bolaño this Saturday at 13:00 in La Casa del Lago."
The event, with free access but limited space, is scheduled at 1 pm . Smith is participating in the poetry cycle called Aloud Poetry “Café La Habana Sessions” ( Poesía en Voz Alta "Sessiones del Café La Habana" ) held between September 1 and November 31 .
The artist will be accompanied by her collaborator and friend, guitarist Lenny Kaye .
On the web site of one of the event organizers, Gallery Kurimanzutto , it reads: "Smith's poem is inspired by the ritual sacrifice of a hundred oxen mentioned by Bolaño in his novel Amulet . Smith will read 'Hecatomb' for the first time in public along with other works that evidence the hopeful potential of art and literature."
The cycle took its name from the historic Café La Habana, established in 1954 and located in Mexico City. Through its corners, personalities such as Roberto Bolaño, Octavio Paz , and Fidel Castro paraded.
In parallel, Smith will inaugurate a billboard for Sonora 128 which will include a phone to call and listen to Smith at any moment. The concept is to transform the sense of the advertisement into an interactive space .
