The Dead of the Day is almost here! This is a day when people come together to remember their loved ones who aren't here anymore through an ofrenda (offering) full of color, smells, and flavors. The Day of the Dead is, without a doubt, one of the most iconic and representative traditions in Mexican culture , which dates back to Precolonial times.
Some of this tradition's most characteristic symbols are the “ pan de muerto ” (dead's bread) and the sugar and chocolate skulls , which are present in every Mexican home during this date.
The “pan de muerto ” and candy skulls actually have its own festival! It'll take place from October 19 to 22.
The Pan de Muerto and Candy Skulls Festiva l ( Festival del Pan de Muerto y la Calaverita ) is one of those events that no culture and foodies can miss. There will be over 60 types of bread, some filled with marmalade , Mexican cajeta , butter , Nutella , and clotted cream .
30 artisanal bakeries will participate at the event at the Huerto Roma Verde , in the Roma Sur neighborhood . You will also be able to enjoy traditional beverages such as atoles and champurrado .
You will also find bakers, chocolatiers , and amaranth producers who will present several versions of the candy skull.
This event is for everyone, as it also includes, vegan, whole wheat, sugarless, and organic options.
