Today, Mexico lost one of its most talented sportsmen , Carlos Girón , who passed away at 65 after battling pneumonia .
Girón was a diver . He won a silver medal in the 1980 Olympic Games , participated in several Olympic Games and other international championships .

He participated in his first international competition at 11-years-old. When he was 17, he participated in the 1972 Olympic Games held in Munich and in the Olympic Games held in Montreal in 1976 .
In 1980 , in the Moscow Olympic Games , the Mexican diver won a silver medal. However, this win has shrouded by claims that Girón should have won the gold medal since Aleksander Portnov , the Soviet diver, was allowed to repeat his dive.
