Agents of the Mexican Navy seized close to a tonne of cocaine , as well as 1,750 liters of fuel, following the arrest of 14 individuals of various nationalities in Acapulco , in the coastal state of Guerrero.
The operation took place after an aircraft of Mexico's Army spotted two suspicious ships and requested the Navy to dispatch a patrol to intercept them.
“There is maritime operation in place which includes aircraft support to cease criminal activities,” authorities said in a statement released.
According to the information available, the crew of both ships included one Colombian, seven Mexicans, and six Ecuadorians citizens , who were all arrested during the operation and handed over to agents of the Prosecutor's Office in Guerrero to continue with the corresponding legal proceedings.
The lifeless body of an individual, believed to be a Mexican citizen, was also found during the raid and handed over to Mexico's Forensic Service, agency which will conduct the necessary procedures, according to the Mexican Navy.
