The Frankfurt Book Fair ( Frankfurter Buchmesse ) is the largest trade fair for books all over the world, based both on the number of publishing companies represented, and the number of visitors. Frankfurter Buchmesse is considered the most important book fair for international deals and trading.
This year, Mexico is promoting the country's literary production that deals with drug trafficking and organized crime with about 22 publishing houses at the Frankfurter Buchmesse.
Carlos Anaya Rosique
, President of the National Chamber for the Mexican Publishing Industry ( Cámara Nacional de la Industria Editorial Mexicana ), emphasized that the sort of literature that should be spread by great publishing companies is Mexican literature that deals with trafficking, organized crime, violence and the hope that the country endures despite those conditions.
According to Anaya, writers such as Juan Villoro , Jorge Volpi , Elena Poniatowska , Jaime Labastida , Diego Enrique Osorno and Elmer Mendoza , risk their lives because they "tell things that otherwise are not said."
Carlos Anaya Rosique assures that Mexico is having a good demand for right purchase for translation and publication in other languages and countries, and overall, he emphasized that Mexico currently has "a very vast, very broad literature" that must be promoted, aside from the great classics such as Octavio Paz or Juan Rulfo.
