President Andrés Manuel López Obrador will resume his work trips on June 1. His first stop is Cancún, Quintana Roo , where he will inaugurate the construction of the Maya Train .
Today, the Mexican President will also attend a ceremony to commemorate the Day of the Navy at Isla Mujeres .
The decision to resume his travels comes during a critical time. In recent days, Dr. Hugo López-Gatell revealed 31 states have a high contagion risk . Moreover, health authorities have registered almost 10,000 coronavirus-related deaths.
Furthermore, López Obrador announced he will host news conferences and meetings in every state he visits; however, he asked people not to attend his events while he is visiting southern Mexico to prevent the spread of COVID-19 .

The Mexican President will also visit Campeche, Chiapas, Tabasco, and Coatzacoalcos later this week.
In two weeks, the President is expected to travel to northern Mexico.
In recent days, President López Obrador said the country had tamed the pandemic , despite registered 3,000 new cases every day for a week.
After the announcement was made, the opposition criticized the President for his decision to resume his activities, which could prompt others to dismiss physical distancing measures.
They argue that instead of setting an example, the President is dismissing the scheme implemented by his administration to travel throughout the country when 31 out of 32 have a high contagion risk.
