The Zóquite community, located in Zacatecas , inaugurated a new church that has become the home of a giant baby Jesus statue . The statue is 6.58 meters tall and weighs 750 kilos. It was made by artisans in Chimalhuacán, in the state of Mexico and it has a price tag of MXN $280,000.
The new church was inaugurated on January 6 by local archbishop Sigifredo Noriega Barceló and Zacatecas Governor Alejandro Tello Cristerna .
The inhabitants of Zóquite hope that the new church and the gigantic statue attract religious tourism . Every day, people come to visit the one-of-a-kind baby Jesus .
The giant statue went viral on social media when users started to draw similarities between the religious figure and actor Nicolas Cage.
After the criticism, the statue was modified and not has much softer features and brown eyes.
