Mexico’s civil aviation authority
on Wednesday temporarily suspended flights by Boeing Co’s 737 MAX 8 and MAX 9 aircraft in and out of the country following an Ethiopian Airlines plane crash on Sunday that killed 157 people .
This entails that no airplane of this kind will be allowed to land on or take off from any airport runway in the country.
“Based on information provided by international aviation authorities, Mexico’s General Directorate for Civil Aviation (DGAC) will act to apply actions needed to guarantee the security and trust of aviation users in our airspace,” the government body announced in a press release.
Last Wednesday , Boeing recommended the temporary suspension of the 737 MAX model ’s operation as a precaution following the Ethiopian Airlines crash on Sunday.
As of today, more than 50 airlines in different countries, including Mexico, have decided to suspend the circulation of the Boeing model and the DGAC will follow up on both the company and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)’s technical recommendations on the matter.
There are currently three hundred and seventy one 737 MAX airplanes in operation throughout the world.
