Mexico's government
signed contracts to purchase 571 tank trucks from U.S. companies, for around USD $85 million.
During his morning press conference, President López Obrador announced this is the first purchase, as the government plans to purchase 707 tank trucks to stabilize the fuel supply in the country.
The 571 tank trucks purchased are part of the strategy to fight fuel theft and it means that in March, the administration will have more vehicles to distribute 116,000 additional fuel barrels per day.
It was also announced that the federal government discovered that at the beginning of Enrique Peña Nieto's administration , his government issued a tender to purchase 700 tank trucks and gave a down payment of MXN $400 million but the vehicles were never delivered.
In regards to this, the President explained that the tender organized by the previous administration was worth MXN $1,400 million.
“We were given information about the previous government , at the beginning of the administration, there was a tender to buy 700 tank trucks . The company was given a down payment , that company gave the down payment to another company, they don't do anything and they didn't deliver the vehicles,” he explained.
The President said this is a legal case that is being investigated to find those responsible.
