Mexico’s government returned a lot of 37 cultural goods to Peru . They are pre-Columbian artifacts that were located in Mexican territory and seized. After the corresponding assessments, the originality of the pieces was validated.
The National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) will be the institution in charge of the return of the pieces with the care they need.
The pieces were presented on Tuesday in the Foreign Affairs Ministry with the presence of the Culture Minister Alejandra Frausto Guerrero , the Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard , and Peru’s Foreign Minister Gustavo Meza-Cuadra .
Among the pieces, explained Alejandro Bautista , an archeologist from the INAH , are three pieces that were recovered in a seize made in 2009 in the United States but that “until a couple of years ago, North American authorities sent as part of other Mexican archeological goods .”
Nevertheless, INA H experts noticed these pieces did not have characteristics that corresponded to the country’s pre-Columbian cultures , so they investigated and found out they were from Peru .

We have no information on how they arrived in Mexico.”
Among the pieces returned to Peru are dishes , pots , and jars made with clay, two stone objects, three metal artifacts, two wooden glasses, a stone model, and a textile that “stands out for its conservation statu s and the preservation of its colors and design.”
The 34 objects that were returned were registered since 2017 . The most recent piece was received last year, between July and August, according to Alejandro Bautista , who added that the restoration of the pieces will be in charge of Peru.
Marcelo Ebrard said that actions like the return of these invaluable pieces are “lights of hope” that fertilize diplomacy, especially if the context of political relationships with other countries is considered.
