“We have three ‘ vochos ’ (a Mexican nickname for the Volkswagen Beetle ) and we are working on getting one more, as well as a ‘ combi ’ ( Volkswagen Transporter ) suite. And the best part is we are almost done preparing a light aircraft,” explained Ramón Franco, owner of EcoCamping , a hotel located a few kilometers away from the Magical Village of Valladolid in the Mexican state of Yucatán.
The setting is surrounded by nature and ‘cenotes’ (underwater caves), and is only a few kilometers away from the Chichén Itzá archeological site , which holds some of the most iconic Mayan ruins in Mexico.
Franco was born in Oaxaca, southern Mexico. He found peace and quiet in Mayan lands and has since sought to share it with others who would like to experience sleeping in one of these peculiar “rooms.”
Available for rent, the rooms have undergone several modifications for comfort and a small airplane is currently being remodeled to be turned into another room.
“Ecocamping is a quiet, sustainable, and quiet place where people can find peace and harmony,” the owner stated.
Franco explained that everything was made with recycled materials. “We put our hearts into this place,” and it works with “both solar and wind power .” It has a pool, a library, a gym, WiFi, and even a play area, he added.
People are also allowed to camp and tourists from all over the world have stayed at the sustainable and eccentric hotel.
“We want to keep building with recycled materials and we are now looking into the possibility of obtaining a ship to make a room and even build some houses on trees. Sometime in the future, I would like to make a UFO in the back,” he stated.
