The earthquakes of 7 and 19 September, 2017 , left a toll of 636 damaged properties and out of the 1,814 million pesos intended for reconstruction works, there was funding for the rehabilitation of 52 government bodies, hospitals, and schools in 11 entities of the Republic . The government also payed for allowances, information campaigns, and psychological counseling, as well as compensations for workers, according to information obtained through transparency platforms .
The reports delivered include the use of said amount of money for different matters, such as building repairs, loans, information campaigns, work tools, donations, food, allowances, and workshops meant for bureaucrats to overcome last year’s earthquakes.
In addition to public works of all kinds, 12,979 million pesos out of a total of 18,198 million were invested in the repair works of 19,194 educational establishments , according to the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) .
A total of 410 damaged buildings were located in Mexico City, 82 in the State of Mexico, 55 in Puebla, 40 in Oaxaca, 19 in Guerrero, and 18 in Morelos . Hospital infrastructures were the most damaged, followed by public education facilities of all levels.
The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) represented the largest number of damage payments, given that in 329 hospitals, clinics, theaters, and sports centers located in Mexico City, Puebla, Oaxaca, Morelos, the State of Mexico, and Tlaxcala , 267,002,234 pesos were used for repairs .
Other expenses included repairs of roads and highways that suffered structural damages, travel allowances, raw materials, and information campaigns.
Other government bodies that had to undergo repair works in their facilities were the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), the Mexican Geological Services (SGM), the Ministry of the Navy (SEMAR), Mexican Petroleums (PEMEX), Mexico’s National Autonomous University (UNAM), the Autonomous Metropolitan University (UAM), the Mexican Postal Service, and the Ministry of Culture (SC) , among others.
