Mexico to face Iceland

Today, the Mexican Football Federation ( FMF ) announced that Mexico will begin its 2018 World Cup preparation by facing Iceland .

Both teams are expected to call up their MVP players for the match scheduled for Friday, March 23 , at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara , California , the first match that falls within a FIFA window this year.

Mexico has faced Iceland three times, winning one match and drawing two. The first time they met was in 2003 in Phoenix , Arizona in a game that ended in a 0-0 draw , followed by a second match in 2010 in Charlotte , North Carolina , resulting in a 0-0 draw , and lastly in Las Vegas , Nevada , with Mexico winning 1-0 last year.

However, it should be noted that Mexico will kick off 2018 with a friendly match against Bosnia & Herzegovina scheduled for Wednesday, January 31 , in San Antonio , Texas .

Mexico has faced Bosnia & Herzegovina three times as well, winning two and losing one. The first time they met was in 2011 in a game that ended in a 2-0 draw , followed by a second match in 2012 in a 2-1 draw , and in 2014 with Bosnia & Herzegovina winning 1-0 .
