Mexico City’s measles outbreak likely started in a prison

The measles outbreak registered in Mexico City could have been originated in the North Prevention Prison for Men (Reclusorio Norte), as informed by health authorities of Mexico City’s government.

So far, there are 16 suspected measles cases, all of them inside this prison , in addition to the four confirmed cases.

Regarding the three confirmed cases in the Gustavo A. Madero borough , it was informed that the two adults (37 and 39 years old) are inmates at the Mexico City prison. Moreover, the eight-year-old infected girl who lives in the Álvaro Obregón borough would be related to one of them.

authorities are currently performing an inspection at the penitentiary facility where they have found 16 suspected measles cases , so they have toughened monitoring measures.

3,000 vaccinations have been applied to inmates , custodians , staff , and relatives .

The Health Ministry confirmed it has 168,000 available doses of vaccines against measles.
