The similarities between the works of Marcel Duchamp and Jeff Koons will be addressed in an exhibition that the Jumex Museum will host in the month of May 2019 , curated by Massimiliano Gioni .
The first exhibition was named Naked Appearance: Desire and Object in the Works of Marcel Duchamp and Jeff Koons ( Apariencia desnuda: el deseo y el objeto en la obra de Marcel Duchamp y Jeff Koons ), and features more than 70 pieces by two of the most influential artists of the 20th century.
The complete series of Duchamp’s ready-mades will be part of the exhibition, as well as some of the most popular Koons series such as “The New,” “Banality,” “Made in Heaven,” “Celebration,” “Antiquity,” and “Baloon Dog.”
The artworks will be available at the picture gallery located in the Polanco neighborhood of Mexico City , from May 17 to September 29, 2019 .
Through a press release, the Jumex Museum informed that the works of both artists would be placed in front of each other as the exhibition is meant to work as a mirror to accentuate the differences and similarities between Koons and Duchamp.
Gioni assured that this is the first exhibition to directly address the influence of Duchamp in Koons and the interpretation that the latter made of the former.
“In addition to analyzing the relation between the ready-made and consumer culture, the exhibition reveals the way in which the work of Duchamp and Koons gravitates around the enigmas of invisibility and transparency, secretiveness and revelation ,” he added.
