Mexican athletes Aída Román, Mariana Avitia, and Alejandra Valencia won silver medals at the Antalya 2019 Hyundai Archery World Cup in Turkey, stage 3, and are now preparing to participate at the Lima Pan American Games as they prepare for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics .
The women’s archery team moved to the finals, where they lost to the experienced team from Taiwan, which has won bronze in other world competitions.
“We won second place and this has motivated us to keep preparing for the world cup in two weeks,” said Román through Twitter, shortly after losing against Taiwan 5-1.
The team, which is likely to win a medal for Mexico at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, will now participate in the Hertongebosch championship, in Holland, where they will seek to return to the podium, as they did in 2017 at a competition that took place in Mexico City .
The athletes will seek to earn their place in Tokyo, both as a team and individually. The men’s team from Mexico will do the same, though they didn’t win a single medal in Turkey.
Valencia, Avitia, and Román didn’t win a medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. We shall see if they are able to level the score.
According to a world ranking, the Mexican team ranks sixth worldwide, with 237.225 points .
