The National Fine Arts and Literature Institute (INBAL) classified all the documents and information related to the event La Luz del Mundo church hosted at the Palace of Fine Arts as confidential for the next five years. During the event, the religious sect paid homage to its leader, Naasón Joaquín García , who is currently in a U.S. prison, accused of rape and s exual abuse of minors.
When EL UNIVERSAL requested a copy of the documents that approved the rental of the Palace of Fine Arts , the institute refused the request and argued that its Transparency Committee decided that it could not release any document linked to the case until 2024 because there is an ongoing investigation.
The INBAL also claimed that after an exhaustive search that lasted 40 days, the institution did not find any copy of a check or payment made for the rental of the Palace of Fine Arts.
A homage to Naasón Joaquín

revealed that on May 15, La Luz del Mundo church celebrated its leader's 50th birthday at the Palace of Fine Arts . Previously, the cultural venue had never been used to pay homage to a religious leader .
Moreover, the Symphony Orchestra of the Armed Navy played the music for the opera “ The Guardian of the Mirror ”, which was said to be “a homage for the Apostle of Jesus Christ , Naasón Joaquín García .”
In the government's Transparency Obligation's website , it is mentioned that the main hall at the Palace of Fine Arts can only be rented for cultural events. Moreover, criticism erupted as the opera was a cultural event aimed to pay homage to the religious leader and not a cultural event as such.
The event to celebrate Naasón Joaquín's 50th birthday was attended by politicians from all parties and government officials .
