The defense linebacker of the Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM) , Máximo González , is one of the seven foreigners that the NFL will seek to train and eventually integrate into one of their 32 franchises through a special program,
Máximo started playing American football when he was 12 years old , with the Burros Blancos (White Donkeys) of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) . Last year, he played in the Major League with the Borregos (Sheep) of ITESM. In January , he will become part of the NFL program in Florida .
The league was able to identify the seven best athletes of five countries who will compete for an opportunity to be part of the 2019 program. Since the program has been a success to date, the NFL decided to widen their search for international talent, introducing players from Brazil and Mexico for the first time. Athletes from Australia, Germany, and the United Kingdom will also participate in the program, as well as two professional rugby players: Valentine Holmes and Christian Wade.
David Bada (Germany), Moubarak Djeri (Germany), Valentine Holmes (Australia), Jakob Johnson (Germany), Dural Neto (Brazil), Maximo Sanchez (Mexico), and Christian Wade (United Kingdom)
will begin their training in the United States, where they will be given an opportunity to show their talents to the NFL scouts in the month of March, with hopes of being selected as a member of a practice team in 2019 through the International Players Program.
