A judge in a Mexican criminal court issued a guilty verdict and 55-year prison sentence to Servando Gómez Martínez , also known as “La Tuta,” for kidnapping committed in the city of Uruapan, Michoacán.
Gómez Martínez, former leader of the Knights Templar Cartel , was found guilty of kidnapping a businessman in August, 2011 .
Following his arrest on February 2015 , Servando Gómez was imprisoned in the El Altiplano prison, where he faces trial and a conviction for federal crimes.
Servando Gómez Martínez was arrested on the morning of February 27, 2015 in Morelia, Michoacán . The suspect, who had also been part of the Michoacán Family cartel, started his career as a rural teacher at the Melchor Ocampo elementary school in the 1980s, in the Quiroga municipality.
According to police documents from the former PGR (Attorney General’s Office) , Servando Gómez was a rural teacher, later on he became a farmer, and started getting involved in drug trafficking in 2001.
