Mexican students Frida Vázquez, Rodrigo Chávez, Neil Granados, Fabián Ramírez, Karla Guerrero, Sara Lizeth, Sofía Cedillo, Johanna, Castañeda, Ederth Rangel, and Cossete Ramírez have won the Science Heroes Award at the First Lego League open international in Turkey.
The group called “Xpacers” competed against 85 teams from different countries and won with a project that proposes the use of crickets as an alternative food source for space missions
The students from Guanajuato have participated both in the regional First Lego League tournament in Mexico City and the First Lego League National Championship in the city of Monterrey earlier this year.
The Science Heroes Award is granted to children who promote scientific values, according to a press release issued by the First Lego League, endorsed by LEGO Education RobotiX.
The children from Guanajuato received advice from professors Beatriz Sánchez, Ramón Castañeda, Juan Luis Bretón, Beatriz Esmirna González, Sofía Gersenowies, Juan Rodríguez, Juan Manuel Buenrostro, Rubén Gersenowies, and María Elena Morales.

explained that their triumph “is the result of our continuous effort, research, and the advice we have received from experts in the field. Through this initiative, we aim to place the name of our country on high, as well as our state, city, and school.”
The international competition was held from May 22 to 25 , with the participation of teams from Chile, Denmark, the United Arab Emirates, India, Japan, Italy, Nigeria, Estonia, Ukraine, the Philippines, Malaysia, Lebanon, Pakistan, China, Switzerland, and Germany, among others.
