The Mexico City government has put into practice an alliance with the telecommunications firm Direct Bus to provide shuttle service users with free internet access via Wi-Fi in all their 150 units .
The telecommunications company has stated that the service will be free of cost, since it will have an ad-based revenue . As users log into the Wi-Fi signal , they will be presented with advertisements.
The creation cost of the wireless internet infrastructure is estimated around 20 million pesos . The company expects a daily turnout of 80 users for each Metrobus unit , on average.
The Wi-Fi connection will allow users to connect on social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram . Access to other platforms with higher demand will be blocked, since Direct Bus has decided to provide only between 50 and 100 gigabytes of data on each route.
