enjoyed a great reception during a tribute organized in his honor by the prestigious Lumière Film Festival of Lyon , the city in which the cinematograph was invented.
The event, managed by the General Delegate of the Cannes Film Festival, Thierry Frémaux , takes place at the house where the Lumière brothers invented cinema. During the festival, Frémaux deemed Cuarón "one of the most exciting filmmakers of the moment.”

"The Lumière award is one of the most prestigious decorations that can be given to a filmmaker. Having my film here, the fact that the French premiere of 'Roma' was made here, it’s glorious and wonderful," Declared Cuarón in an interview with Notimex .
"Having Alfonso Cuarón here is a way of greeting Mexican cinema as one of the most vital cultural expressions in the world, one that is full of life, creativity, and love for movies," said the director of both the Lumière Festival and the Cannes Festival, Thierry Frémaux.
A plaque with the name of Alfonso Cuarón will now be added to a wall full of directors that have had the honor of being decorated at the birthplace of cinema in Lyon, France.
