On Tuesday, Mattel announced a new series called Inspiring Women in honor of International Women’s Day , as Barbie is committed to shining a light on empowering role models past and present in an effort to inspire girls around the world.
This series follows the Sheroes series portraying "female heroes who inspire girls by breaking boundaries and expanding possibilities for women everywhere.”
With a doll in their likeness, Barbie honored twenty-one extraordinary women such as Boxing champion Nicola Adams Obe , Aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart , Principal ballerina Misty Copeland , Film director Ava Duvernay , Actress and philanthropist Xiatong Guan , Fine artist Frida Kahlo , and Professional golfer Lorena Ochoa , among others.
Lorena Ochoa
(Guadalajara, 1981) is a Mexican professional golfer. She was the first Mexican golfer to be ranked number one in the world , and she is considered the best Mexican golfer and the best Latin American female golfer of all time. Lorena Ochoa was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2017 .
"I am very happy to be recognized by Barbie as a source of inspiration for many girls," said Lorena Ochoa adding that "this recognition is one more reason to continue demonstrating that with perseverance and love for what you do you can be who you want to be."
