The Mexican-American YouTuber Juanpa Zurita is now the first influencer to have his own wax statue at the Mexico City Wax Museum .
Zurita unveiled the sculpture last Monday at the museum premises; Marcos de la Fuente, who leads the museum’s scupltors workshop, created the piece .
During the ceremony, the YouTube celebrity was thankful that his work was getting so much attention and explained that it was a huge step in the visibilization of influencers.
“I want to emphasize something very important. Today, the Wax Museum has made room for someone with a different profession,” stated Zurita.
“To this day, there are industries that still haven’t given us that space, and what we are seeing today could lead us towards a better future. I want to thank you for believing in this new generation and being part of our history,” he added.
The sculpture of Zurita, who appeared in the Netflix bio-series of Luis Miguel , will be put on display next to world known artists such as Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, and Pitbull , as well as Mexican filmmakers Alejandro González Iñárritu and Guillermo del Toro .
A social commitment
The influencer claimed that he would not get involved in a new social cause until he finished the Love Army Mexico project, which is already at its final stage.
“It has been a lot of work for architects and engineers. The best of all is that, while the houses are being built, the Origen Foundation started a program with the community so that the earthquake victims could start their own businesses. So now there are families making jams, hot sauces and such,” he told.
“This is not just about rebuilding their homes, we want to help rebuild their community and conduct a full intervention so that once we get out of Ocuilán , it can work and sustain itself.”
Zurita plans to continue the project and invite architects and engineers to the area so that they may get acquainted with the social inclusion project, which he considers to be the most important reconstruction project in Mexico.
