On Sunday, Javier Duarte's Twitter account was reactivated and will be used to “personally defend himself” from the allegations made against him.
Through his Twitter account , Duarte allegedly doesn't “have the electronic communication tools” but that he will share information through third parties to “personally defend himself against allegations.”
The verified Twitter account shared a document where Duarte denies any involvement in a homicide that took place in Mexico City in 2015 and emphasizes that he does not own any properties located in the U.S. , obtained through the use of public resources from the Veracruz government .
Moreover, the former Veracruz governor claims it is not a coincidence that days after his public appearance, he is “once again linked to these brutal event s.”
In the document, it is stated that an investigation “led to the sentence of those responsible” for the torture and murder of several people in Mexico City.
Furthermore, the document explains that the former governor , Miguel Ángel Yunes Linares , hired lawyers in the U.S. to recover alleged properties Duarte acquired in the U.S. using p ublic funds but Duarte claim he does not know anything about these properties and claims that his enemies know he has no money to hire lawyers in the U.S. and defend himself.
Duarte then shared U.S. documents that show a judge in Texas dismissed the case the state of Veracruz filed against him.
The case was dismissed for want of prosecution, which means: “A case may be dismissed for want of prosecution ( DWOP ) on the failure of any party seeking affirmative relief to appear for any hearing or trial, or failing to take certain specified actions of which the party had notice. Once signed, the DWOP dismissal order has the effect of closing the case .” Therefore, it seems like the lawyers representing the state of Veracruz in the U.S. failed to take an active role in the case against Duarte .
