In view of the COVID-19 contingency , authorities from the Iztapalapa borough and the Holy Week Organizing Committee determined that the 177th procession of the Passion of the Christ will take place in a symbolic way, in a closed space , with no access to the public , a reduced number of actors, and with all the health measures required to protect the health of all participants.
This decision was taken as part of the recommendations made by health institutions to avoid the gathering of people that could cause the spread of the virus.

Iztapalapa’s mayoress Clara Brugada said that this year, the procession will be broadcast so that everyone will be able to watch this tradition in Mexico City .
For this, Mexico City’s mayoress Claudia Sheinbaum will be asked to broadcast the procession through the public TV system and share the signal so that all media outlets have access to it.

Likewise, she stressed that all commercial activities, fairs, and shows related to the procession will be suspended and there will also be a security and surveillance operation to guarantee these measures are fulfilled.
Nevertheless, she said these actions will be evaluated according to the evolution of this contingency and the population will be informed as corresponds.
Clara Brugada invited the over 2 million people who attend the Way of the Cross year after year to follow it via TV or online.
