According to the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) , chili peppers provide protection against cholesterol since they contain high levels of vitamin A & C . They are helpful against rheumatic diseases because they contain capsaicin , a substance that works like an analgesic and anti-inflammatory drug.
Consuming chili peppers can also help prevent heart diseases, like heart attacks and strokes caused by high blood pressure. They are low in calories and stimulate metabolism.

Chili peppers are a common ingredient in the Mexican diet . Eating peppers releases endorphins which are the chemicals in charge of provoking pleasure.
In addition, this food helps increase the levels of serotonin in the brain, which generates a sense of well-being. This sensation increases the more chili peppers are consumed.
Despite its benefits, gastroenterologist Héctor Gómez Jaramillo from IMSS mentions that “unmeasured consumption [of chili peppers] can damage organs like the rectum and the large intestine, causing irritation, diarrhea, inflammation, and severe pain.”

In a statement released by the IMSS, it is mentioned that capsaicin is an active component of chili peppers and it is responsible for the burning sensation in the mouth.
