The Italian photographer Tina Modotti was honored today, August 16, in the search engine of Google, on the 121 anniversary of her birth.
Thus, the company paid a tribute to her with a doodle of the artist, who was born in 1896 and arrived in Mexico in 1923 to become one of the revolutionary activists, member of the Mexican Communist Party
“The photographer was never still. Tina Modotti refused to become a silent observer behind her camera lens. After all, 'I cannot solve the problem of life by getting lost in the problem of art,'” summarized the search engine.
The first photos of Tina were mostly abstract, but phone wires, stairs, and flowers were topics which made her lens lose focus on the “problems of life” she couldn't ignore.
In Mexico, Modotti became friends with artists such as Antonieta Rivas Mercado, Diego Rivera , David Alfaro Siqueiros , Pablo Neruda , J osé Clemente Orozco , Blanca Luz Brum, Vittorio vidali, Nahui Ollin, Maria Tereza Montoya and Frida Kahlo .
“Her photographs changed to depict every-day workers and the magnificent popular art of Mexico City, which included the documentary on the Mexican Muralism,” Google added.
In 1931 the Italian hung up her camera and dedicated full-time to political activism until her death on January 5, 1942, when she died of a heart attack at 45 in the capital city of Mexico.
